The casino strategies below may be simple, but they reduce the house edge quickly. If you are able to perform the best casino strategies, you’ll win more sessions and eventually play longer.
1 – Take the Odds- They Are in Your Favor
When you play craps you start each sequence of rolls with a come out roll. You can bet on the pass or don't pass line during a come out roll. Eventually (usually after one roll, but not always) a point is set.
Once this happens, you can place a special wager called an on-odds bet . Because the casinos don’t want people to place the odds bet, their place is marked on the table. You will slide your bet behind the pass or don’t pass line bet you previously placed and then say you’ll have the odds. This can be tricky or hard to follow, so if you have any questions just ask one of the casino personnel.
These odds bets are offered at odds of zero. Whenever you have the opportunity, you should place them because the house edge is zero.
2 – Basic Blackjack Casino Strategies
While playing blackjack, if you perfect a few basic casino strategies, it can reduce the house edge by 3% or more. The house rules could have a lot to do with the house edge overall, but if you play based on casino strategies you’ll save money in the long-term, no matter the house rules. This will assure you lose the minimum amount of money during a losing session and gives you the best chance to have a winning session.
Strategy charts and cards are available in most casino stores, or online.
3 – Video Strategy Cards for Poker
Using a casino strategy card for every game you are playing is a must, even when you know that you are playing on the video poker machines that offer the best pay charts. You could save 2% or more with every hand. Being able to play multiple hands per hour, this gives you the opportunity to play up to four times longer on the same bankroll.
Strategy cards can be found in the gift shop of the casino or online. Having the popular strategy cards in your pocket before going into the casino will prepare you for whatever game is available.
4 – Always Bet the Banker
Playing baccarat, you should always bet on the banker. This strategy offers the lowest house edge and is the only strategic decision you can play. This has a house edge of just over 1%, making it one of the lowest.
5 – When at the Slot Machines, Slow Down
Some of the highest house edges can be found in the slot machines. Adding to that, you usually are allowed to play 300 or more spins per hour. Combining that many decisions per hour and a big house edge, creates the worst combo in a casino.
There aren’t any true strategies to help you on the slot machines, but the best thing to do (besides not playing), is to slow down your play. Playing only 100 spins instead of 300, the bankroll will last three times more.
6 – Play Less Texas Hold 'em Hands
Playing fewer hands when playing Texas Hold’em, will make you start winning.
If you enter with better starting hands than the opponents, on average you’ll win more hands. Anything can happen in the short-term, but in the long run the better starting hand wins more.
If you are willing to try a drastic casino strategy, you can try this experiment for 10 hours. Only enter the pot with the following hands.
- A/K suited or not
- A/Q suited or not
- A/J suited or not
- A/10 suited or not
- K/Q suited
- K/J suited
You won’t be playing many hands, but will stand a better chance of winning than when playing 30% of your starting hands. After proving you are able to do it during 10 hours of playing, you can level up to playing a few more hands, but not too many. On average, you should only play around 20% of your hands. Once you start to play fewer and fewer hands, you can work on other things to improve, like position.
7 – Play Only On Single Zero Wheels
Roulette doesn’t have many strategies to it. The house edge stays the same, no matter your bet.
One thing you can do is play roulette only on wheels with just single zero space. Double and single zero space wheels have a house edge of 5.2% or more. Single zero space only wheels have a house edge of 2.7%.
Even though it won’t work out perfectly in the short run, you will be able to play almost twice as long at a single zero wheel on the same bankroll, in the long run. This is reason enough for this strategy to be featured on this list.
8 – Place One Bet Only
For some, especially those who gamble for the enjoyment of the action, this might be a bit out there.
A friend of mine uses unique casino strategies every time he’s in Las Vegas. He takes the bankroll and divides it by the number of days he’ll stay there, betting the entire stake for each day on a wager close to 50/50, at the beginning of the day.
He puts the original wager in his pocket for profit if he wins the bet, and the rest of the day he plays with his win. On the contrary, he does nothing that day if he loses.
I’ll exemplify to make it easier for you: Starting with a $2,000 bankroll and a five-day trip. The daily bankroll would be $400 and every day he places a $400 bet on a single zero roulette wheel. If he wins, he will gamble with the $400 he won that day.
The average trip will have him win two or three of the first five bets, coming home with $800 or even $1,200 almost every time. But there will be times where he won’t get to gamble at all besides that first bet of the day.
Here are a few things he has considered changing:
Instead of dividing your trip bankroll by the exact number of days of the trip, you can divide it by an extra day. This creates an extra amount you can use in case you lose the original wager two days in a row.
In the example above, you'd divide $2,000 by six for a daily bankroll of $333. If you lose your first bet both of the first two days, you can play with your extra $333 that day.
The other thing you can do is recycle your winnings from earlier days when you lose the first bet.
Here's an example:
On day one, if you lose your first bet, you can use the money you saved to play on a day when you lose the first wager.
Also, with the money you gamble throughout the day, you’ll win some days, or you can use that money to play later.
9 – Tournaments Are Good
Tournaments tend to be a great way to win a big prize investing a set amount. Payout structures vary for entry fees, but the biggest tournaments can have a payout of up to the hundreds or thousands or even millions.
All kinds of tournaments can be found. Not only poker tournaments exist, but many casinos offer slots or blackjack tournaments as well. With this strategy, you have a good chance to extend your bankroll. So much so, that some players even plan their entire trip around these tournaments.
With this system, you don’t have to win a lot to make money. Just placing high enough to win something, can give you better prizes than a regular table game or machine.
10 – Try Not to Bluff
This includes poker in any of its forms: Omaha, Texas Hold ‘ em, and 7 card stud. Bluffing is something you shouldn’t do as much as you do. You may be fooled by the TV players who look like they’re bluffing always, but actually, most pros bluff only occasionally. Try cutting down your bluffing by half of the time you do currently. This way, your bluffs will work more often and you’ll make more money when you are not bluffing.
These simple casino strategies will make you win more often and play longer. They are simple enough for any casino gambler, so why not give one or more a try? The odds are you won’t regret it.
